KATHMANDU: Nepal dominated the opening day of the third International Karate Tournament winning nine gold medals here today.
Sudan Rana Magar of Nepal defeated compatriot Anup Nagarkoti to win the men’s 50kg final, while the hosts also clean swept the boys 13-14yrs individual kata after Prem Budha, Parshuram Gurung and Shankar Bhandari and Num Raj Gurung won gold, silver and bronze respectively.
Nepal’s Jaman Singh Gurung and Bishal Tamang claimed the top two finishes in the above-17 yrs individual kata with Dhiroj Kodam of India and Man Bahadur Bhurtel of Nepal winning bronze. Likewise, Anjana Nepali and Melina Pariyar won the gold and silver in the girls’ 15-16 yrs individual kata. Kiran Pathar and Prajata Dotar of India were joint third.
Also, in the below-12 yrs boys individual kata, Amar Lama, Bishal Chhetri and Bhuwan Khatri and Sagar Neupane claimed the podium finishes for Nepal. Nepal also clean swept the event in the girls’ section with Deepa Bhitrakoti, Kabita Sharma and Alisha Shrestha along with Sagun Gurung winning gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
Nepal won the men’s and women’s team kata, while Ragabi Acharya won the boys 7-8 yrs kumite gold defeating countryman Sagun Paudel.
