KATHMANDU: Japan has welcomed the latest political development on Nepal's peace process and lauded the strong commitment displayed by the leaders of the political parties to resolve the disputed issues on the integration of former Maoist combatants into the Nepal Army.

“The Nepali Year 2069 will be remembered as the beginning of a new era in the history of Nepal,” reads the press statement issued by Embassy of Japan on Monday.

Acknowledging the role of political parties since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2006, Japan has urged the political leaders to concentrate on the statute-drafting process.

“Japan, as an old friend of Nepal, sincerely wishes that the political leaders and the members of the Constituent Assembly, to whom the historical task of constitution drafting has been entrusted, remain united for the purpose of realizing the long-embraced aspirations of the people of Nepal,” further reads the press statement reaffirming the continued support of Japan to Nepal.
