KATHMANDU: The Nepali embassy in Geneva organised a special Nepal Promotional Programme in Rome, Italy, yesterday.

The function was organised in cooperation with the Non-Resident Nepali Association Italy and the Honorary Consul of Nepal in Rome, said the embassy, which is concurrently accredited to the Republic of Italy.

A large gathering of Italian travel agents, tour operators, travel writers, journalists, mountaineers, potential tourists, businesspersons, non-resident Nepalis and other Nepali organisations was present during the function, which was inaugurated by Shanker D Bairagi, Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva.

Addressing the programme, Bairagi said the government has given priority to economic diplomacy in its external relations and that securing an enhanced flow of aid, promoting Nepal’s exports, attracting foreign direct investment in productive sectors, promoting tourism and securing overseas employment opportunities for Nepalis were among the key components of economy diplomacy.

He also highlighted progress made by Nepal in socio-economic sectors. While briefing the audience about the current developments in Nepal, he called for constructive and meaningful support from all quarters, including the Nepali diaspora, reads the Embassy statement.

President of Non-Residential Nepalis Association, Italy, Anil Bhattarai expressed commitment on behalf of the organisation to support government initiatives to promote Nepal abroad.

Honorary Consul of Nepal in Rome Paolo Nugari said he would work closely with Italian authorities and the Nepali community in furthering mutual interests.
