KATHMANDU: New Diamond Academy claimed the first Chandeshwori Cup Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament with straight sets victory over Dhankuta District Sports Committee today.
In the final match held at the Ramechhap Sports Development Committee grounds, New Diamond — led by 15-year old Ramila Tandukar — hammered a hapless Dhankuta Team 25-5, 25-10, 25-6. The champions pocketed Rs 50,000 and runners-up Dhankuta got Rs 30,000.
Ramila was adjudged the best player of the tournament apart from taking the best spiker’s honour. The best player honour won her a mobile set, while she pocketed Rs 2,500 for winning the best spiker award. Salina Shrestha and Kripa Adhikari – also from the winning team – were declared the best defender and lifter respectively.
Jeevani Rai of Dhankuta won the best server award. In the third place match, Gokul Ganga overcame hosts Chandeshwori Youth Club 25-10, 25-18, 25-7. Gokul Ganga won Rs 15,000 and Chandeshwori got Rs 10,500.
