KANO: A Nigerian official says several explosions have struck a university campus near a lecture hall where Christians were holding a service in the country's north.
Abubakar Jibril, a spokesman for Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency, said at least three explosions had struck an old section of Bayero University's campus in the city of Kano and its surrounding area. He said sporadic gunfire was still ongoing.
Jibril said rescue officials could not reach the site as an apparent terrorist attack was still underway.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the Sunday morning attack. It comes as Nigeria faces a growing sectarian battle between its weak central government and a radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram.
