KATHMANDU: The fifth convention of Sancharika Samuha(Forum of Women Journalists and Communicators) today elected a new 13-member executive committee under the chair of Nirmala Sharma.
Suchitra Shrestha has been elected vice president replacing Sharma, who served at the post for the last two years.
Of the 13-member committee, president, vice president and two members — Asmita Bhandari and Dhana Lama were nominated unanimously.
According to the election result that came late this evening, Nitu Pandit, Kamala Panthi and Bimalay Timphewa were elected general secretary, secretary and treasurer respectively.
Likewise, Aruna Rayamajhi, Mita Sapkota, Geeta Mainali, Meera Ranabhat, Yashodha Adhikari, Babita Khanal were elected members of the Samuha.
On the occasion of its 16th anniversary and fifth convention, Sancharika Samuha honoured Deepak Sapkota from Naya Patrika daily with Sancharika Samanata Puraskar (Sancharika Equality Award), Prem Kumari Ghale, working for Kantipur daily from Lamjung with ‘Late Uma Singh Journalism Award 2068’ and Rubi Rauniyar from Nagarik daily and Debaki Bista , photo journalist from Saurya daily with Sancharika Encouragement Award.
Sancharika Samanata Puraskar is given to journalists for their news or articles concerning gender equality and carries a purse of Rs 15,000, while late Uma Singh Journalism Award is given to journalists who have been working as professional journalists for at least two years and carries a purse of Rs 7,111. Similarly, Sancharika Encouragement Award is given to a new journalist by way of encouragement.
