RAJBIRAJ: Elderlies, disabled and widows in more than four dozen Village Development Committees in Saptari district have been deprived of social security allowances since the third week of June. This has happened because of the failure of VDC secretaries concerned to follow District Development Committee (DDC) directive to submit an updated list of the people eligible for the allowances.
Among the VDC secretaries, who ignored the directive are — VDC Secretaries’ Rights Protection Centre’s vice-chairman and Chhinnamasta VDC secretary Ram Kumar Yadav and Saptari district chairman of the centre and Jamunimadhepur VDC secretary Shivadev Yadav.
As per the last decision of the Cabinet on the distribution of social security allowances, the VDC secretaries should distribute the first installment in the last week of September, the second installment during the Martyrs’ Week and the third installment during the Nepali New Year.
The DDC had directed all the VDC secretaries to distribute the last installment of the previous fiscal year within July 9 and submit all the receipts of the allowances distributed along with an updated list of the recipients within August 16.
