KATHMANDU: The third Nobel Cup U-19 National 3-by-3 Basketball Championships is beginning here from Tuesday. A total of 40 teams – 24 in men and 16 in women’s sections – are participating in the tournament to be held at the National Sports Council covered hall. Main sponsors Nobel Academy will bear the entire tournament cost (Rs 500,000), informed the Nepal Basketball Association first vice-president Narendra Thapa. National College (men) and Nobel Academy (women) are the defending champions of the event. — HNS
NNIPA’s farewell
KATHMANDU: The National and International Players Association (NNIPA) on Monday bade farewell to the athletes participating in the 2012 London Olympic Games. The NNIPA also handed over tracksuits and shoes to the players. Swimmers Prasiddha Jung Shah and Shreya Dhital, sprinters Pramila Rijal and Tilak Ram Tharu and shooter Sneha Rajya Laxmi Rana are competing in the July 27 to August 12 Olympics. Ongden Lama (swimming), Tika Sedhai (Athletics) and Dhruba Bikram Shahi (shooting) are the coaches in the team. The players, except for shooters, will leave for London on Tuesday. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama bade farewell to the team. Meanwhile, the Nepal Olympic Committee also bade farewell to the athletes at a separate programme on Monday.
