BIRGUNJ: The number of HIV/AIDS infected people using antiretroviral (ARV) therapy has sharply increased in Birgunj Sub-regional Hospital lately.
The ARVs are the drugs that can slow down the progress of HIV and thus slow down the damage of immune system of the people living with HIV/AIDS.
During the second week of Asar of the current fiscal year, a total of 309 HIV/AIDS infected people have been receiving this therapy in Birgunj.
The number of HIV/AIDS infected people using this treatment system was only two in 2062 B.S according to the Hospital.
The HIV/AIDS infected people from Bara, Parsa, Rautahat and Makawanpur visit the Narayani Sub-regional Hospital for ARV therapy.
The hospital source said that Rauthat district has the highest number of HIV/AIDS infected population followed by Parsa.
According to the hospital, altogether 41 HIV/AIDS persons receiving ARVs died of the disease.
