GAIGHAT: A GR9 helicopter that Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai was boarding while returning to Kathmandu after participating in the convocation ceremony of the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, Sunsari made an emergency landing at the Bhulke-based Nepali Army brigade in Gaighat, Udayapur at about 4:45 on Saturday.

The chopper had to make the emergency landing after it faced ‘some technical problem’.

The chopper landed at the NA brigade after it made three failed attempts to land at the Bhagawati Dal Barracks in Gaighat earlier.

Chiefs of all the security bodies had reached the brigade to call on the prime minister during his brief stay there. According to Brigadier Umesh Bhattarai, the prime minister headed to Kathmandu after staying at the brigade for about two and half hours.

A Nepali Army MI17 helicopter flew him to Kathmandu at about 7:35pm.
