Locals looking at a swollen Seti River in Ramghat Pokhara‚ Kaski on Saturday‚ May 5‚ 2012. An avalanche in the Annapurna mountain range has triggered flood in the river that has inflicted loss of life and property downstream.

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has decided to grant NRs 1 lakh and 25 thousand to the families of those who lost their lives in cataclysmic Seti flood.

Dr Bhattarai also announced NRs 25,000 as an emergency relief fund to those who have been rendered homeless after their thatched houses were swept away by Saturday’s apocalyptic flood.

A massive flood in Seti River on Saturday wreaked havoc in Kharapani of Sardikhola VDC, Sadal of Machhapuchhre VDC, in Yamdi and Ramghat and other adjoining places of Kaski district, leaving 15 dead so far.

According to Kaski police, 31 other are still missing and search operation is underway.

After having inspected flood affected areas of Kaski district on Sunday morning, PM Bhattarai announced relief programmes from the the Disaster Relief Fund.

Besides taking an aerial view of flood-ravaged areas along with UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachhadar, PM instructed the rescuers—Nepal Army and Nepal Police to expedite search operation in the affected areas.
