KATHMANDU: The Cabinet on Monday authorised Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal to take final decision regarding the term extension of United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN).
Following the decision, Prime Minister Nepal has constituted a high-level taskforce comprising of five ministers to finalise the proposal to extend UNMIN's tenure. Defence Minister Bidya Bhandari, Home Minister Bhim Rawal, Peace Minister Rakam Chemjong, Information and Communications Minister Shanker Pokharel and Culture Minister Minendra Rijal are the members of the taskforce.
UNMIN's term is expiring on September 15.
Also, the Cabinet decided that Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Gyan Chandra Acharya will represent the country in the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly as Prime Minister Nepal cancelled his intended participatin due to domestic political situation.
