KATHMANDU: A sub-committee under the Legislature-Parliament's Committee on Women, Children and Social Welfare has demanded to book the culprits involved in killing of Shiva Shankar Das-- a member of the Dalit community who was murdered for making love with a girl from the so-called higher caste family at Pansera in Saptari district.

The sub-committee was constituted to study the problem of caste discrimination and practice of untouchability and to suggest ways of resolving the problems.

Speaking at the meeting of the sub-committee here today, the sub-committee members said the administration should arrest the guilty in the murder of Das at the earliest and take legal action against them.

They said that a study team of the sub-committee has found the murder as a premeditated one.

Sub-committee members Govinda Nepali, Shila Katila, Asha Kumar Sardar and Bimala Nepali, among others demanded taking stern action against the guilty.

At the meeting, Home Secretary Sushil Jung Rana promised to book the culprits at the earliest and take action against them.

Similarly, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Rabindra Pratap Shah, said necessary investigations into the incident are underway and that the suggestions given by the sub-committee to that connection would be helpful in the investigations.

He added that the district police office is doing the needful to this end.

Coordinator of the sub-committee Binod Pahadi stressed the need for expediting the investigations into this incident and taking action against the guilty while providing justice to the family of the victim.
