KATHMANDU: Political parties are likely to finalise three draft bills--bill regarding the amendment to the Interim Constitution, bills on Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Inquiry on Disappearances, on Thursday.

In the meeting scheduled to take place in Singha Durbar at the twelve noon between the UCPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress, CPN-UML along with the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) , top leaders will probably finalise the bills in the presence of members of parliamentary committee, said UCPN-Maoist Lawmaker Khimlal Devkota.

Wednesday’s big guns’ meet suggested the officials of Ministry of Law and Justice to make changes in draft bills accordingly.

Parties have decided to amend the Article 70 of the Interim Constitution in order to shorten the constitution drafting process owing to the time constrain. (Note: Article 70 states that each of the articles of the new constitution need to be endorsed one-by-one by a two-thirds majority)

Only 39 days are left to meet the May 27 deadline for the promulgation of a new constitution.

Similarly, political parties have agreed to finalise the draft bills on Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Inquiry into Disappearances as an endeavor to provide justice to the victims of the decade-long Maoist insurgency.
