KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has claimed that political parties will be able to seal a deal on national unity government within the extended deadline of November 6.
“Political parties will strike the consensus chord by Thursday as parties have already agreed on NC-led unity government”, said Koirala while speaking at an interaction programme organised by Reporters Club in the Capital on Monday.
“Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai had said that he won’t be a hindrance to the political consensus on the thorny issues including CA polls and unity government and this has increased the hope for consensus” added Koirala.
Saying that NC-led government had previously held fair polls, he stressed on the need of NC-led unity government as UCPN-M and CPN-UML had already led the government.
Claiming that there is no dispute within NC for NC’s prime ministerial candidate, he further said that NC will announce its candidate as soon as the incumbent government walks out.
On a different note, Koirala clarified that NC will not accept Bhattarai-led unity government.
Earlier on Monday, Prime Minster Dr Baburam Bhattarai and UCPN-M Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal reached NC President Sushil Koirala’s residence and sought his support to morph the incumbent Maoist-led government into a national consensus government.
Following the meet, a meeting of office bearers and central members of NC held at President Sushil Koirala's residence at Maharajgunj had decided not to accept Bhattarai-led unity government.
Earlier on Thursday, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav had extended the deadline for parties to agree on a common prime ministerial candidate to December 6.
