ANKARA: Turkey’s armed forces command said on Wednesday it had found the bodies of both pilots of an F-4 jet shot down by Syria last month and was trying to retrieve them from the seabed. Relations between Ankara and Damascus hit a new low after Syria shot down the Turkish reconnaissance plane over the Mediterranean on June 22.
5 die in hostage drama
BERLIN: Five people were shot dead after a gunman facing eviction seized hostages in an apartment in the southern German city of Karlsruhe on Wednesday, police said. The gunman was thought to be among the dead, officers said. “Special forces broke into the apartment after smelling smoke and found four dead bodies. Probably one of them is the gunman,” a police spokesman said. Police later said a fifth body had been also found and that one of the victims was a woman.
