POKHARA: The Pokhara Tourism Council today organised the much awaited Ropain Festival in the Lake City with domestic and foreign tourists.

Visitors celebrated the festival by dancing to the tunes of dohori and eating dahi chiura (curd and beaten rice).

According to Ropain Festival coordinator Surya Bahadur Bhujel, “Foreign visitors took part in the mud race competition and also assured to visit Nepal for next year’s Ropain Festival.”

The programme was organised to make farmers accountable to their occupation and preserve the fertile land and also to mark the day, farmers plant new seedlings of rice crop of the year in their paddies, he added.

Ropain Festival was organised on Ashad 15 to give continuity to the tradition of the National Paddy Day which has been observed since 2004, Pokhara Tourism Council chairman and Nepal Tourism Board member Tikaram Sapkota said.

Meanwhile, General Secretary Basantaraj Dawadi of Pokhara Tourism Council said about they plan to develop the Lake City into a popular tourist destination throughout the year.
