We frequently compliment inanimate objects like a gadget, a car or a well furnished room but often feel miserly
to put few honest words of compliments for a fellow human being. As important as it is to appreciate good things in life is to express them. It’s not about flattery but about telling someone sincerely what you like about them. Your words of appreciation have the power to change the lives of people.
As we need food to nourish our bodies, we need appreciation to feed our self esteem. Our innate desire to have good looks, intellect, money and power is actually fuelled by our need to be appreciated. Even if we have everything of those, happiness is hard to find if we lack the people to appreciate us in our lives. Indeed, a recent U.S.
The Department of Labor data shows that the number one reason people leave their jobs is that they do not feel appreciated. Power of appreciation actually works in two ways. When you appreciate a person, you are nourishing the self esteem of that person. At the same time, feelings or emotions that you utilize when you appreciate someone will help attract more positive things and more positive people into your life.
A smile is a very powerful tool of appreciation but we often seem to undermine its importance. A smile can work magic; it can heal emotional and physical pain. When you smile at another person you not only let them feel that they are wanted, accepted and appreciated, but that smile also helps you create a positive energy within yourself. Technically speaking, when you smile you release a neurotransmitter deep within your brain known as an Endorphin which helps to spread a feel good message throughout your body. So when you smile you are spreading a signal of happiness in the world and within yourself. In this busy world, everyday we encounter different people, become exposed to different events and emotional stimuli. Some may feel good, some may not and at times we become too much stressed by everything that’s going wrong in our lives. You can try this with yourself; find some time everyday: maybe during your lunch break, way back to home or before sleep to look into your day, all those people and little incidents in your life. Find something about them- small or large that you feel good about and fill yourself up with feeling of appreciation.
There are people who aren’t as fortunate so appreciate what you have and see that positive feeling reverberate through you. Learning to appreciate people and things in your life not only elevates your mood but also changes your outlook towards life.
