KATHMANDU: The Armed Police Force has transferred the Power of Office of suspended DIG Ranjan Koirala, currently in judicial custody in Dilli Bazaar Prison on the charge of murdering his wife, to its headquarters by creating a special post.

Any official facing criminal charge is not relieved of the post until the court convicts the accused, as per the prevailing law. Koirala had his posting in the Department of Operation.

According to APF, his Power of Office was transferred to the headquarters pursuant to the May 24 decision of the Cabinet. APF DIG Koirala was suspended after police arrested him on January 22 for murdering his wife Gita.

Gita was slain at her home in Budhanilkantha. Her charred body parts were found in Palung of Makwanpur on January 12.

Though police have gathered evidences to prove the murder was premeditated and Koirala has pleaded guilty, he is trying to alter his statements before the court saying he never intended to kill his 39-year-old wife, sources informed.
