KATHMANDU: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Tuesday attended a reception organised by the Supreme Court today to mark the Law Day.


Vice-president Parmananda Jha, Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Speaker Subas Nembang, CA members, former Chief Justices, former Justices, members of the Judicial Council, Heads of Diplomatic Missions, Nepal Bar Association office-bearers and media persons were present on the occasion.


The Law Day is observed in commemoration of the enforcement of the Supreme Court Act on 8th April 2012, and thereby to stress the necessity of rule of law, supremacy of law and the need of justice.


Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice Khilraj Regmi said as every execution of work of the judiciary would have a direct and lasting effect on the country and people, we should always try our best to ensure impartiality, honesty, good conduct, integrity and swiftness.


He also said special measures would be taken to enhance fairness and impartiality in justice, speed up execution of justice through the use of technology and exercise zero tolerance towards corruption, irregularities and anomalies.


On the occasion, the Chief Justice stressed that the new Constitution to come within the specified timeframe was the need of the day.


The new Constitution must guarantee independent judiciary, civil freedom, human rights, and the rule of law, press freedom and easy access of the marginalised groups to justice, he added.
