KATHMANDU: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has urged engineers to cooperate with the government to build a prosperous Nepal with peace and political stability.
Inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations of Nepal Engineers' Association amidst a ceremony here today, the President stressed the need of cooperation and support from all sides in the campaign of building a prosperous Nepal.
All the bodies concerned are equally responsible for the delay in drafting the new constitution, said the President, adding that peace and constitution are the main desire of the people.
Stating that the State is being run on the basis of the Interim Constitution and the journey to a constitution is still on, he said all the Nepali people are in favour of national integrity, sovereignty and social tolerance.
The President termed engineers as pioneers of civilization and physical infrastructure development and stressed the need of making the country stronger in terms of socio-economic transformation.
On the occasion, President Dr Yadav honoured Shankarnath Rimal, designer of the Narayanhiti Palace, Martyr's Gate and other important monuments with the 'Lifetime Achievement Award'.
Similarly, four engineers were also awarded on the occasion in recognition of their contributions to the development of entrepreneurship, business and rural transportation. Also speaking on the occasion, Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission Deependra Bahadur Chhetri said the development projects completed in a hurry at the end of the fiscal year lack quality.
"I am committed to implementing the development projects effectively and urge engineers to help me in this regard," he said.Association Chairman Mahendra Bahadur Gurung called for forming an Engineering Council at the earliest.
Presently, a total of 13,500 engineers are associated with the Association that was established with 15 members some fifty years ago.
