KATHMANDU: While only seven days are left to meet the May 27 deadline to issue a new constitution, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav urged the major political parties to create an environment, wherein the promulgation of the timely constitution will not be stymied.

President pressed for timely statute while big guns representing the major four political parties—the UCPN-Maoist, the Nepali Congress (NC), the CPN-UML and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) -- thronged the official residence of President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at Sheetal Niwas on Monday morning.

Head honchos not only briefed the head of the state about the progress seen in the consensual politics over the issue of state restructuring, the thorniest issue in the statue –drafting process, but also expressed their confidence to issue the first draft of the new constitution within the stipulated deadline.

During the meeting, President Dr Yadav also expressed concern over the postponement of the meetings of Parliament and the Constituent Assembly (CA) due to the general strikes called by Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN).

Timely constitution has no alternative and president Yadav reiterated on the same, said Jhalnath Khanal after meeting.

“If constitution is not drafted by May 27, it will lead to anarchy. So president asked us to forge the consensus on the thorny issues at the earliest,” said Deputy PM and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar emerging from the meeting.
