ITAHARI: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai today inspected the Koshi River embankment to take stock of the ongoing repair work in the area.

The prime minister instructed technicians to finish repairing the spurs of the embankment at the earliest as the monsoon was near. “We briefed the prime minister on repair works at Pulthegaunda, which technicians say is still vulnerable to a breach,” said Eastern Regional Administrator Krishnachandra Paudel.

Sources said Bhattarai had kept the visit on his priority to see to it that the flooding –– such as the one that took place four years ago –– was not repeated.

He also made an aerial inspection of the embankment and the site for the proposed Koshi High Dam.

The prime minister had come to the area while returning to Kathmandu after participating in the convocation ceremony of the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.
