Pulsar Sports Award on July 4

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) today announced July 4 date for this year’s Pulsar Sports Award.

NSJF has moved the annual event — one of the biggest in Nepali sports sector — two months earlier which will now coincide with the International Sports Journalists’ Day, July 2.

The Sports Award will be given away in eight different categories — Player of the Year (Male and Female), Youth, Coach, Para-Athlete, Lifetime Achievement, Special and Popular, the NSJF announced here during a press conference today.

Three awards — Special, Lifetime Achievement and Para-Athlete — will be declared during the Award ceremony at the Nepal Academy hall, while an eight-member player selection committee will announce five each nominees in the best players (Male and Female), Coach, Youth and Popular Player of the Year categories.

The winner of the Popular category will be declared through SMS voting from the fans. Since, NSJF and Pulsar — an automobile brand under Hansraj Hulaschand and Company Pvt Ltd — are already in a five-year contract from last year, Pulsar will remain the title sponsors of the Sports Award.

Hansraj Hulaschand Executive Director Shekhar Golchha said he had every reason to stick with the Award. “We have been in touch with the NSJF for the last four years. And since, the Award itself has been enthusiastic and path breaking, we have our reasons to continue with it,” said Golchha.

“I think sportsmen have a different character of understanding and they have the patience needed for the game. The programme will help attract more Nepali people into sports. Though sports is not a political entity, it is necessary for national integration. I wish all the success to the programme,” he added.

The winners of the Male and Female categories will get a Pulsar motorcycle each, while NSJF is also planning to award the Popular Player with a two-wheeler. The winners in other categories will receive Rs 30,000 each. The nominees in all categories will get gift hampers from Timex and Samsung.
