KATHMANDU: Minister Barshaman Pun, one of the members of the three-member government talks team led by Deputy Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, on Thursday wrote to 12 different agitating groups inviting them for talks. The Ministry for Peace and Reconstruction has stated that the government has created environment for talks for the organisations that have enforced strike in the far-west region for the last 14 days. Minister Pun has urged them to form a five-member talks team and come to the table for dialogue.

Threat to shut customs

BIRGUNJ: A joint struggle committee formed to pressure parties and government for making Birgunj the capital of Madhes province has warned of closing Birgunj customs from Friday. Birgunj is a major customs point through which petroleum products and other essential commodities are imported and exported. A meeting of the committee held at Maisthan on Thursday took the decision. Rajendra Bahadur Amatya of the committee said they took the decision to close the customs point to press the parties to pay heed to their demand. Representatives of different professional groups, organisations and political parties had participated in Thursday’s meeting of the committee.
