MYAGDI : The rural road construction in Maygdi district has gradually displaced the trekking routes.

The construction of roads in Shikha, Ghar and other villages has slashed the arrival of tourists, according to Annapurna Conservation Area Project Branch Office, Shikha.

Around two dozen hotel entrepreneurs have been displaced after the trekkers opted for alternative routes instead of Ghorepani-Shikha-Ghar routes.

As many as 13,834 foreigners had trekked via this route in 2009 and 12,241 in 2010. However, the number of trekkers is gradually decreasing as only 11,444 foreigners visited in 2011.

Only 1,600 visitors have visited through the routes till now in 2012, said Chief of the Branch Office, Chhetra Gurung.

Dhandkharka-Khopra-Narchyang to Mustang district has taken the place of the old trekking route after it was turned into rural road.
