BHAKTAPUR: An allround performance from skipper Kiran Shrestha guided three-time defending champions Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya (SAM) to a comprehensive 98-run win over Rajan Memorial School in the fifth CoAS Inter-school Running Cricket final here today.
Electing to bat first, SAM scored 171-4 in 20 overs. The hosts lost opener Niraj Shrestha (two) in the second over but Ayush Jung Thapa and Kiran slammed half century each to put on 99-run stand. Ayush scored an unbeaten 64 off 56 deliveries hitting four boundaries, while man-of-the-final Kiran made a fiery 38-ball 54 with seven strikes to the fence.
Gunjan Yadav chipped in 12-ball 20 and Najik Bikram Rana contributed 14 off nine. Sujan Chapagain picked up 2-34 and Kiran Saud had one scalp for Rajan Memorial.
In reply, Kiran returned with a magical figures of 7-22 from 3.5 overs as Rajan Memorial were bundled out for 73 in 13.5 overs. Rajan Memorial were never in contention after losing wickets at regular intervals. Praveen Raj Pantha (16), skipper Anil MC (12) and Kiran (10) were the only Rajan Memorial batsmen to score in double figures. Gunjan also took two wickets, while Ayush claimed one.
Kiran was named man-of-the-series for his 184 runs and 15 wickets in the tournament. Pramod Khatri and Aryan Adhikari, both of Rajan Memorial, were named the best batsman and bowler respectively. Pramod scored 149, while Aryan picked up 14 wickets in five innings.
