BHAKTAPUR: Hosts Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya (SAM) got off to a triumphant start in the fifth CoAS Inter-school Running Cricket Tournament defeating Nepal Police School here today.
Opting to bat first, SAM made a modest 140-7 in their allotted 20 overs and bundled out Nepal Police for 84 in 17.1 overs. Kiran Shrestha and Suman Kunwar picked up two wickets each for SAM, while Basu Baniya and Gunjan Yadav had one scalp each. Bhupendra Oli top scored for the losing side with a 31-ball 22 that included one boundary. Chandan Upadhyaya and Rajesh Chaulagain were the remaining batsmen to make runs in double figures with 19 runs each. Chandan hit three fours in 15 balls.
Earlier, Kiran also starred with the bat in SAM innings with his fluent 43 from 41 balls. Man-of-the-match Kiran hit four boundaries. Niraj Shrestha made a 32-ball 29 with four fours and Gunjan’s unbeaten 23 from 22 balls fetched him three boundaries. Bhupendra was Nepal Police’s all round performed picking up 4-22 from four overs. Ajay Chaudhary took two wickets and Aryan Dipak Raut had one victim.
In all, 10 teams from Kavre and Kathmandu are participating in the tournament. On Saturday, Galaxy Public School will play Greenland Children Academy.
