SC convicts TEPC's Shrestha for embezzlement

KATHMANDU: The Special Court (SC) today convicted the executive director at the Trade and Export Promotion Centre (TEPC) Ramesh Kumar Shrestha for embezzling Rs 1.3 million during the 10th SAARC Trade Fair in 2010.
A bench comprising judges Gauri Bahadur Karki, Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Prasad Chalise also slapped a jail sentence of two years and six months.
SC has also imposed a fine of NRs 13, 29,906.
Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a corruption case against Shrestha in the SC.
Shrestha was also charged with misappropriating Rs 4.4 million while hiring TEPC staffers on contract basis.
