KATHMANDU: The Special Court (SC) on Thursday has sought a bail amount of Rs. 4.36 million from a Chinese citizen Li Su Lin in a money laundering case.
The decision was announced by Chairperson of the Special Court, Gauri Bahadur Karki and Judges Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Prasad Chalise.
Li had been carrying out vegetable farming on a land leased from the Nepal Food Corporation at Bhadrakali plaza and police had seized Rs. 2.25 million and a Nissan Jeep with diplomatic registration number 11-0-8 from him.
However, Li told the court that the amount was borrowed from Nepali citizens in order to run business in the country.
The Money Laundering Investigation Department had filed a case at the Special Court against Li, stating that legal sources of the earnings including the confiscated cash and the vehicle could not be traced.
