POKHARA: Kaski District Football Association is organising the second Safal Pokhara Cup Football Tournament here at the Pokhara Stadium from October 30 to November 8.

In all, 12 teams — eight ‘A’ Division outfits of Nepal, three foreign clubs and a team from the hosts — will participate in the 10-day tournament, informed the organisers during a press conference here today.

Of the total estimated costs of Rs 5.5 million, the winners will receive Rs 305,000, which the organisers claim as the biggest cash prize to be given ever in any football tournaments outside the Kathmandu valley. The runners-up will get a purse of Rs 150,000.

The top two teams in the inaugural edition last year received Rs 250,000 and Rs 125,000. Bangladeshi team Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club had lifted the trophy last year defeating Tribhuvan Army Club 1-0.

Likewise, the best player of the tournament, goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, striker, highest scorer and coach are also assured of cash prizes this time around, informed the organisers.

Meanwhile, the District FA has announced to honour Kaski Footballer of the Year with Rs 25,000 and a journalist — who has contributed to the sport’s development in the region — with Rs 15,000. The amount will be given from the Players Welfare Fund, established by the FA. Kaski FA has collected Rs 700,000 in the fund, and is aiming to amass Rs five million.
