WASHINGTON: Katie Holmes has filed for divorce from husband of five years Tom Cruise primarily due to his fierce ties to Scientology, fearing that he would drag their daughter, Suri, deep into the church.
Sources told TMZ that the 33-year-old actress has never been fully committed to Scientology, even though she has had ties with the church. The Hollywood A-list couple had apparently been arguing over six-year-old Suri, as she’s now of the age where Scientology becomes a significant part of her life.
Sources familiar with the split said that Holmes is filing for sole legal custody specifically because she does not want the 49-year-old to control decisions relating to religion. —
