n Yes, I believe that someone or something always influence us in some way or the other. We have a great example of our late king Prithivi Narayan Shah and Nepalis are inspired by him as he said “unity in diversity”. If one can try, he/she can achieve anything. I am just a school-boy and I have chosen my father as my source of inspiration. My aim is to be like him so I am moving forward on the path which he has shown me. He is a genius, intelligent, responsible, honest, kind, loyal and helpful person. I idolise him because of these qualities. I want to follow my father’s saying ‘try to earn name and fame but not property’. In the future I will follow this saying and thank God for giving me my father.

— Agrim Poudel, Masbar, Pokhara-7

n I believe that your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don’t even know you. My life has been changed so much after meeting Khagendra Pandhak Limbu, writer of Abstract Bangkok through facebook. I find myself more positive than before after reading his writings which not only gives me real happiness but also gives me energy to face every obstacle with smiling face. I have learned about perceiving the conception on abstraction. It’s a philosophy called Amoortabodhi Darshan which includes —

1. The philosophy of beauty of ugliness: every ugly thing has beauty, alias nothing is ugly in this world.

2. Travelling through the difficult way: to grab perfect

achievement

3. Principle of utilisation

4. Madness for being real

5. Self enlightenment

6. Spiritual plus Science plus nature

His saying ‘you have divine potential inside you, you just have to realise it and let it bloom’ has always given me inspiration to achieve my goals.

— Anjana Timilsina,

Dallu, Kathmandu

n My life was influenced not by a book, a leader, a film but it was my teachers who inspired me to become ambitious and enthusiastic every time. They were just not my teachers; they were my friends and mentor. I got the best guidelines throughout my life. As most of my childhood was spent in school hostel, I could not walk off from their shadow. I was an average, shy student. During our SLC pre-board exam with their support, I scored the highest marks for optional English subject. Who could believe that me as an average student could score such marks? I proved that I am not an ordinary person, I have

potential.

— Asa Rai, Maharajgunj

n I’m not successful. But I’m trying to be successful. One thing that is an influencing factor in my life is the book Phul ko Akha Ma written by Ani Choing Drolma, which I read three months ago. That book reflects the internal feeling of a writer. I was able to know about my parents because of that book. This book is all about love, peace and everything which one wants. What I really found after I read that book is no one is perfect in the world. Anyone can make a mistake but should learn from that mistake. Positive thinking, hard labour, patience and discipline always lead to success. Let’s realise it and brighten our future.

n Blind imitation is bad but one needs something or someone for inspiration. I am a student who is very fond of reading books and am greatly influenced by the book You Can Win by Shiv Khera. He has simply described the journey to success in life. His way of presenting the ideas in such a simple language with heart touching words and inspirational stories have influenced me a lot. In the crossroads of my life I always remember his teachings and try my best to follow the path shown by him. I will always try to do what this book says to be a successful person in life.

— Garima Poudel,

Masbar, Pokhara-7

n I admire my grandparents. Though they are no more but their teachings will always live. They had implanted a great value upon me and often people say ‘you have good values like your grandfather’. He never misused his popularity and power. He never compromised on his values. He always had a clean image. He was a great person and will always remain. So, this is something that I like about him and I practice to be like him, but I can’t be like him as he has created a niche where no-one can come up to that level. He has sacrificed all his life in binding all the Muslim brothers to shape the strong foundation of Islam and its teachings here in Nepal.

He was regarded as an amir sahib (leader of an Islamic group). There are many books, film... that have inspired and influenced me. However, my grandfather is the only one whom I would like to praise as he has done a lot for his children, for his people and for his grand children. May your soul rest in peace in heaven.

— Moin Uddin, Ghattekulo, Kathmandu

n A saying, ‘if you want to cheer yourself up, you should try cheering someone else up’ has made me take a particular step in life. I was pretty impressed by this and thought practicing it. Then, I commenced motivating and giving suggestions to needy people. I made them laugh in misery. In return even I got support from them in time of need.

— Nishchal Tamang,

Putalisadak, Kathmandu

n This world is like an open university for me. The lessons in life are my real assets. The problems actually give me strength and stability. Whenever I come to crossroads in my life, I always remember God. God is only one who gives me the directions in my life. Whenever I need God’s help, I always go in deep level of subconscious mind. When I reach soul conscious stage, I always hear God’s spiritual message, ‘you are my children and you are not alone, you are always with me’. This voice energises me and I always select the best road and which always takes me to victory. I consider every problem is an opportunity for me.

— BK Lueta GC, Nayabazaar, Kathmandu

n I was a weak student when I was in Class V. I used to feel very guilty whenever every teacher used to discourage to me and other who were like me. One of the teachers never discouraged us. His inspiration worked as a positive catalyst in my life due to which I devoted myself to studies. After that, I always follow the thought of improvement. As a result I have got many things through my study.

— Ranjeeta Kumari Sah, SPES Simara

n I have been inspired and influenced by many people, movies, books and small incidents in life. Any movie or book which reflects human lives, cultures and psychology influences me easily. And those people who are good human beings, have simple thoughts and have contributed something to the society have inspired me a lot including my teachers in my school. Above all, many scientists who have made outstanding discoveries have influenced me the most.

— Rajendra Prasad Pangeni, UK

n The book by Jhamak Ghimire, Jeevan Kada Ki Phool inspired me a lot. After reading the book I came to know about her life. She, a differently-abled person, has achieved a lot of name and fame. Her life is not convenient as others. Although having difficulties with her hand and legs she grabbed one of the most prestigious Madan Puraskar and several other awards. I am inspired by her life and have courage to do something.

— Tara Rijal, Biratnagar

n When it comes to inspiration I don’t think a single book,

person or thing can be a role model in every situation. So,

for a student life, like mine,

definitely teachers, family

and above all my conscience seem to be the dominant source of inspiration that help me choose the correct path when I face crossroads. I juggle between these three inspirations of mine whenever I face difficulty within me.

— Sadiksha Thapa,

Pulchowk, Lalitpur

n I have been inspired by my mother. She often says and forces me to understand the present and learn from past. Another person in my life who has influenced me is Karna Shakya. When I read his inspiring book Soch, my way of thinking towards problems in life changed. Then, I came to know that there is no problem without solution; we should search the solution to any problem positively, we should always try to stay away from negative things/thoughts. The important thing is that experience of our past gives us confidence to handle problems.

— Sudarshon Sapkota,

Bhotewodar, Lamjung

n Two things that have influenced me are my family members and a quote in The Alchemist — ‘When you want something all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it’. However, there are many people who have influenced me a lot. Actually, everything around me has influence on me to a great extent. But, the aforementioned two aspects inspire me to strive hard to achieve my aim and have faith in me and my dream too.

Whatever or whoever I am now is just the outcome of my past decisions. Whatever might have influenced my decision it is me who decides it. If I have to choose any path then I look around, then look at myself and follow my instinct to take a path and walk confidently on it.

— Sulochana Panta, Siphal

n I was in Europe. I started thinking; I am beautiful, have a good job, good education and visited most of the European countries. As a result, a kind of ego emerged inside me. Because of this, I forgot my best friend who loves me wholeheartedly.

Days passed and I was fed up of mental pressure, physical burden, stress and anxiety. So, I was about to go into depression. Then I contacted my best friend and shared everything. The best thing about him is, he meditates.

He taught me meditation, conveyed all the positive results of meditation, and sent me Discourses of Satgurus regarding living life in correct way. Surprisingly, I made a regular habit of doing Yoga and meditation and slowly, I started feeling the change. Negative energies started transforming into positive.

Tears trickle down when I remember that girl who was completely shaped and stepped the ladder of spirituality. My best friend is now my husband and is the source of inspiration for me who changed me and we are living a happy life.

— Suja Dulal

n I haven’t faced any challenges or hardships that have made me kneel down. But recently I had a tough time and it nearly broke me down. I was in the midst of confusions and dilemma when in the meantime, a friend of mine gave me a set of books that not only helped me solve the problems but also made me yearn for more challenges. Those were books by Rhonde Byrne The Secret and The Power. There I learned a great deal of things about life and the ways to make it better. Byrne gives a whole new perspective of life and urges to alter the angle of view how one sees life.

— Swagat Gongal, Palpa

n Once I had watched a movie called Kagaj Ke Phool. Divided into two main parts, the film has focused on how the behaviour of people changes with their success and failure. When someone is successful everyone is praising him/her. The moment he/she fails there will no one beside him/her. After watching this movie I reached a conclusion that success and failure are two sides of the same coin and the name and fame of a successful person can erode in a minute. So we should keep ourselves ready to face any situation.

— Ambika Pandey

n Different things can have influence on a human being’s life which might be by product of such situation. Directly or indirectly one can have some message to someone or somebody which determines the way of life. For example, if someone has a good job and education, most of people are encouraged to reach that level. This is the best example how someone, something always influences us in some way or the other. The next example, we have heard that God Shiva used to take hashish. As a result, we, many Hindus also take hashish during Shivaratri. It means such kinds of phenomenon have direct influence in our daily life.

My father is a teacher in lower secondary school. When I was a child he told me different inspiring events of different renowned men. As a result, I was so motivated that I acquired university level education.

— Surendra Singh Bhandari, Samaiji, Khateda, Dadeldhura

n I had a breakdown when I could not get admission to any of the engineering colleges after I passed +2. Since childhood I aimed to be an architect. My financial condition was critical and so my family could not afford the engineering expenses. They advised me to go for BSc, Physics. But I chose to give up my studies than join BSc. I was jealous of my friends and angry with my family members. My behaviour became unusual. I cared for nothing. Two years passed. Everything changed when I read a book Paranormal Achievements through Self Discipline. After I finished reading it, my feelings changed. I learned from the book that people always have choices to make. I read that out of 100 per cent, only one per cent is under one’s control. Then I decided to choose BSc for my Bachelors and joined immediately. I stopped blaming things which were not under my control. I choose to focus on things under my control. Now I am happy because I look forward to positive aspects of life and act accordingly without any anger, jealousy and discontent.

n I’m highly influenced by Gautam Buddha. After reading about him, I have come to realise that today’s world which is struck by violence should be touched by peace. Violence is only the means of destruction. I have also come to know that I should get control over my anger and be calm, cool and peaceful. Whenever we do any work, the first thing we need is peaceful mind. Only then, we will be able to do any work. The most important thing that I have learnt is; we should have control over our anger as it is the worst enemy of human beings.

— Pratik Shrestha,

Buddhanagar, Baneshwor

n I believe, without inspiration there’s no fun in doing things that you do. When you get inspired, you get strong positive feeling to achieve something you’ve always wanted. I always find inspirational things at different junctions of my life. Be it a bulky novel or a simple article by a two year old. In my life, nothing has made me take a significant step but there are two people who have always inspired me and made me visualise things in a different way. The first person is Stephen Hawking. Despite all distortion and impediment, he has contributed a lot to human understanding. And the other person is a friend of mine who always made me feel positive about life. He taught me what honesty means and how interesting life is. These two people have always motivated me in following my heart and do what I want to.

— Pratikshya Mahato

n Whenever we see an admirable work or person, we really get impressed by it. If I have to lay out my experience in this regard would be a movie released around 2009. This movie entirely changed my philosophy. At that time I had just finished my Bachelor’s degree. I didn’t know where to head. I used to think how I would be successful like my friends. After watching that movie I was influenced by it, I came to know we don’t have to be successful but we should possess the capability, then success follows. Nowadays, I’m working as a teacher and I highlight my philosophy to the students.
