KATHMANDU: A three-member sports team left here for China to take part in the third Asian Beach Games (Climbing event) scheduled to be held in Haiyang province of China from June 18 to 20.
The team comprises athletes Mingma Sherpa, Niraj Karki and Hareram Khadka. It is learnt that the team will bear the travel expenses from their own pockets.
Bidding farewell to the team amidst a ceremony on Friday, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council, Yuvraj Lama, called for ending the trend that athletes themselves have to play on personal expense for the sake of the nation.
Similarly, Chairman of the Nepal Basketball Association and member of Nepal Olympic Committee member Tendy Sherpa stressed the need of controlling irregularities taking place in the sports sector. The events of the Beach Games are held on the sandy land of seashores.
Both women's and men's volleyball teams have already set out for China to participate in the games and the basketball team was unable to participate in the games due to lack of budget.
