Senior citizens obstruct Mahendra highway

SAPTARI: : Senior citizens of Bairaba VDC halted vehicles plying on the Mahendra Highway on Sunday morning accusing Saptari District Development Committee for dillydallying in providing allowances to them.
Alleging the VDC secretary for embezzling social security allowances meant for them, the agitated aged have also demanded action against those involved in irregularities.
Only at the end of the last month, senior citizens of Barahibirpur VDC had staged a sit-in in front of the district development committee, where in elderly had even blamed that VDC Secretary Jagadhar Thakur and technical assistant Sitaram Ray took their allowances illegally by forging senior citiszens' signatures.
Gulkuniya Devi Ram of Barahibirpur had alleged that Thakur and Ray forged signatures and withdrew their allowances for four months.
