KATHMANDU: Shikhar Insurance Company Limited is organising the Shikhar Insurance Golf Tournament at the Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday.

Around 100 golfers are expected to take part in the tournament in men, women, senior and junior categories, informed the organisers at a press meet. After sponsoring basketball tournaments for a couple of years, Shikhar Insurance is organising the golf tournament for the first time.

“I was impressed with the environment of Gokarna and decided to organise a golf tournament with a motto of Healthy Life,” said Dip Prakash Panday, Chief Executive Officer of Shikhar Insurance. “As we deal in health insurance for tension free life, we want to make people aware about it through golf,” he added. “We will organise the event annually and it will be a big event in a couple of years,” said Panday.

“We want to attract senior, young and lady executives into the sport through this event,” he added. “In addition, we will be inviting our 600-700 clients to enjoy the game,” he said. Panday also hinted at sponsoring professional event. "Definitely we will go for a big and we are in talks to organise a pro event," he said.

The event will be played under stableford ¾ handicap format. “Apart from trophies and gift hampers, we are also planning to award the winners with air tickets,” said Deepak Acharya, Senior Golf Director at Gokarna Forest Resort. “Such sponsors will not only help golfers but also contribute in the development of the sport,” he added. Marketing GM of Shikhar Insurance Bhupal Bhakta Shrestha was also present on the occasion.
