Know the complex

With its age-old architectural design, the building does not look like a shopping complex at all. But once you enter, you will get the perfect picture of a modern complex.

Here, you can get traditional to modern attires, shoes, gold and silver as well as gold plated jewelleries. The complex has undergarments. Men and children’s clothing together with shoes for children are other attractions. Colour cosmetics, Korean parlour products, crockery and more are the other items available here. The complex spreads up to the third floor and consists of a total of 36 stores.

Rajesh Bahadur Nakarmi, manager of the complex says, “As the building is located in a world heritage site, the Department of Archaeology prohibited us from changing the building’s exterior.”

Meanwhile he claims that they “have not compromised on the features required in a shopping complex as they have all the needed facilities”.

As per Nakarmi, the seven grandsons of Kanchi Maya Shrestha and Janak Das Shrestha had established the complex five years ago in memory of their grandparents and the complex has been named after the first names of these two people, hence called KJ Complex.

The complex as per Nakarmi is a wholesale market. “Even though we are a wholesale market, we sell single products at wholesale rates and this is the most important feature of this complex.”

Attires for all

In this complex, you can find stores that have been running from the day of its establishment while some are just two months old.

Shobha Saree, a store that specialises in French chiffon sarees, embroidered sarees, silk sarees, cotton sarees, Banarasi sarees and varieties of kurta-salwars has been here since the start of the KJ Complex.

And owner Jitendra Rauniyar informs, “Every week we present new designs of sarees and kurta-salwar to our

customers .”

It’s the “net and French chiffon sarees that are in high demand these days” as per Rauniyar. The products in this store are imported from India and Singapore.

At Manakamana Fancy Emporium, you will get clothes for your baby girl and boy. There are pretty frocks, leggings, skirts and more meant for girls and boys can always opt for half pants, pants and others.

Yams Traders deals with jeans for both the men and women, while tee-shirts and shirts for men only. Shriva Kharel, an employee here shares, “We have items from brands like Diesel, H&M, Aeropostale, Calvin Plain together with local products ranging from small size to XL.”

Likewise, you can find undergarments for all age groups at an undergarment store on the ground floor. Here you can get items that range from socks to leggings to camisoles to boxers, among others.

As per Ranjita Rauniar, owner of the store, you will find items from small to medium size.

Cosmetics et al

The P and P Cosmetic Centre and Korean Cosmetic Centre on the third floor started operations just three days ago. At P and P, you will get various colour cosmetics of diverse brands while the Korean shop offers products from Korean brands required for running a parlour. And both these stores are owned by a single person.

Jagannath Pant, one of the customers at P and P shares, “I get products at a reasonable price here.”

Women can get shoes required for casual to party wear at store no G-9 where owner Ramesh Bajracharya says, “The products are from Bangkok and China.”

If you feel hungry and thirsty after shopping, you can enjoy ice-cream to bakery items in the eatery situated on the ground floor.

And in the coming days they are “opening a shoe store for men” as per Nakarmi.

A few stores here offer five to 15 per cent discount while some stores don’t have the

facility.
