KATHMANDU: Shreya Dhital and Sirish Gurung stole the limelight as Little Angels’ (LA) School claimed the seventh Pramod Cup Age Group and Open Swimming Championships here at the here at the International Sports Complex today.
LA accumulated 90 points to lift the team championships, while Lincoln finished second with 73 points. Third-placed Himalaya International Model Higher Secondary School (HIMS) earned 41 points.
Both Shreya and Sirish added four gold medals each to take their gold tally to nine each. Shreya clinched the open women’s 200m and 50m freestyle, girls’ 15-17yrs 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly gold medals. She had won open women’s 100 metre freestyle and 50m butterfly, 15-17 yrs 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle apart from claiming the 4X50m freestyle relay in U-17 open girls’ inter-school category on the inaugural day on Wednesday.
Shreya timed 2:43.53minutes to claim the 200m freestyle gold ahead of Sofia Shah (2:57.59) and Aditi Dhital (3:00.16) and clocked 33:00 seconds to win the 50m freestyle title getting better of Sofia (35:44) and Aditi (37:69). The Lincoln School player took 100m freestyle gold in 1:21.50 and wrapped up the campaign winning the 50m butterfly in 35:62 seconds.
Sirish — who had won the men’s open 200m individual medley and freestyle, 100m butterfly, 13-14yrs 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle on Wednesday — added open men’s 400m freestyle, 100m freestyle, boys’ 13-14yrs 50m backstroke and butterfly golds today.
Sirish clocked 5:01.94 to win the 400m freestyle gold defeating Bisan Chhetri (5:45.31) and Rudra Katwal (5:53.28) and timed 1:03.66 for 100m freestyle ahead of Dilip Thapa Magar (1:04.50) and Prabesh Adhikari (1:04.50). Sirish’s 100m freestyle gold came in 1:15.15, while he won the 50m butterfly in 32:22 seconds.
Sirish missed out gold medals in the open men’s 100m backstroke and in the 13-14yrs 50m breaststroke. Dilip Thapa won the 100m backstroke in 1:19.35 ahead of Sirish (1:20.86) and Miraj Prajapati (1:22.78). Sirish was restricted to another silver in the 50m breaststroke which was won by Samrakshan Thapa in 37:34 seconds. Sirish came in 38:03 seconds.
Meanwhile, Manish Chitrakar claimed the open men’s 50m butterfly title in 30:87 seconds beating Jayant Gurung (31:31) and Gobinda Karki (31:50). Prabesh Adhikari took open men’s 50m breaststroke in 36:06 seconds, ahead of Suman Maharjan (36:56) and Tika Ram Thapa (37.13). Sonira Bista (1:41.03), Clara Field (1:44.25) and Natalia Behrend (1:45.36) secured top three positions in the open men’s 100m breaststroke category.
Likewise, Sheila Gurung clocked 42:82 seconds to clinch the open women’s 50m backstroke title, while Oshin Bharati (45.82) and Jitzwelly Maharjan (48.16) taking home silver and bronze respectively. The LA team of Sanjeet Chaudhary, Sishir Thapa, Samrakshan and Dawa Zambo Sherpa won the boys’ U-17 4X50m relay gold.
Other winners included Sheila (girls’ 13-14yrs 50m backstroke), Niharika Tuladhar (girls’ 11-12yrs 50m freestyle), Jayant (boys’ 15-17yrs 50m backstroke), Ankit Gupta (boys’ U-10 50m freestyle), Sabbu Bista (50m breaststroke), Kiran Karki (boys’ 11-12yrs 50m breaststroke), Angeela Sangbo (girls’ 13-14yrs 50m freestyle), Manish (boys 15-17yrs 50m freestyle), Oshin (girls’ 11-12yrs 50m backstroke) and Sonira (girls’ 15-17yrs 50m breaststroke).
