KATHMANDU: Buddha Singh registered four-stroke victory in the sixth edition of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
Singh, who is a 14-hadicap amateur, played a round of four-under 68 nett. Six players were tied at even-par 72 with Kanchan Basnyat finishing runner-up on count back. Robin Rana came third, also on count back.
The event was played under stroke play full handicap format. Ang Tshiring Sherpa won the best gross award. Korean golfer, Goo Yong Ahn made a Hole-in-One on par-3 10th hole. In all, 35 players took part in the tournament. Captain of Gokarna Golf Club Joseph Nathan gave away prizes to the winners. After the completion of six events under the 2012 season, Lt Gen KNS Thapa is atop the Handicap Club Championship leaderboard with 194 points. Keith Harrison and Ang Tshiring Sherpa are second with 112 points each. Bhairaja Pandey, Sumod Bastakoti, Sonam Ongdi, Buddha Singh, Kanchan Basnyat and Kencho Ongdi shared the fourth position with 100 points apiece. Gaurab Shah is 10th with 90 points.
The top 20 players after 10 events will qualify for the Handicap Club Championship to be held over two rounds in November and December. Similarly, the top three players from all the events in gross section will get the opportunity to participate in the Scratch Club Championship, slated for November and December.
