BANKE: Smuggling of Indian goods on the Nepal-India border in the rural belt of Banke district has increased as the seven customs offices on the border displaced during the decade-long armed conflict have not been reinstated yet.

According to the Nepalgunj Customs Office, illegal import of the goods has flourished and the revenue collection as well has been affected due to the lack of adequate customs check posts on the porous international border here.

Revenue worth tens and thousands of rupees goes without being collected due to the rampant smuggling in the absence of the security personnel and the customs officials along the Nepal-India border.

Checking smuggling taking place through the border has not been effective though teams of Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force have been deployed in Nepalgunj-Rupaidiya road section.

How can smuggling be curbed when APF and police are at main borders area and not on the interior side of porus border. AFP are only at main borders just for harassing and making money form innocent people coming from India. Police are making money and they are not interested in getting deployed on the porus border where no custom area office is there. As it means no income. Nirak, India
