KATHMANDU; Sonam Sherpa and Hari Shrestha of Nepal advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s senior kata during the NSKA Indo-Nepal Shotokan Karate Championship here at the National Sports Council covered hall today.


Making it to the semi-finals in the women’s senior kata were Indian duo Kabita Chauhan and Afrin Ansari. Suraj Shrestha and Sushant Modak of Nepal are also through to the last four in junior boys’ kata while Jiten Kaur and Tripti Sindhe of India and Krishna Sherpa and Puja Dahal of Nepal entered the semi-finals in the junior girls’ kata.

Aniket RJ and Marup Mariyar of India entered the 20kg kumite semi-finals while Kailash Sumekant and Akshay Ananta, also of India, were through to the 25kg semi-finals. Other Indian karatekas joining them in the semi-finals were Yathartha Joshi and Naman Chuke in 30kg, Abhishek Kunwar and Juber Ansari in 35kg, Arup Mariyar and Rupesh Sawele in 40kg, Joseph Fernandez and Bikash Solanki in 45kg, Rohit Kyer and Pradip Pandey in 50kg, Prakash Patel and Anup Pandey in 55kg, Rupesh Yadhav and Piyush Pandey in 60kg along with Anurag and Anil Singh in 65kg.

Entering the semi-finals in the women’s kumite were Supriya Fase and Aafrin Ansari in 40kg, Rakchhya Ramesh Pandit and Tripti Sinde in 30 kg, Swapnisha Joshi and Pramila Dhurwey in 35kg, and Prajakta Mohare and Kajol Korwal in 50kg.
