BHAKTAPUR: Sputum test has been started in different 10 districts in Nepal from the GeneXpert equipment that can quickly find out tuberculosis.
The test was begun from the new technology under the coordination of the National Tuberculosis Centre Thimi and International Immigrant Association Nepal, in association with the TB Reach Project.
The tests have begun in ten places including National TB Centre Thimi as it has begun as an experiment from the equipment, said Director of the National TB Centre, Dr. Kashikant Jha.
Tests were conducted in Nepal from microscope so far and it took at least two days for it and at least eight weeks were taken for culture, but it can be done in two hours from the Genexpert equipment now, said Jha.
The equipment is installed in ten places including Thimi and Parsa district. It is already intalled in Ilam, Bhadrapur, Morang, Dharan, Rajbiraj, Mirchaiya (Siraha), Udayapur and Parsa.
