KATHMANDU: Nepal lost to Sri Lanka by 177 runs in their second match of the Twenty20 World Cup for Blind in Bangalore today.
Nepal had opened the tournament with an emphatic nine-wicket victory over Bangladesh but they went outplayed when Sri Lanka amassed 314-3 in 20 overs with a century from Ravindara. Nepal, in reply, could only muster137-6.
With a mountain to climb, Nepal lost Surya Prasad Bhattarai — who starred in team’s victory over Bangladesh with an unbeaten 78 runs — for two runs. With Sri Lankan bowlers keeping a tight line, Nepali batsmen couldn’t play openly and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Bikram Bahadur Rana had scored 54 runs against Bangladesh but he was run out for just 26 — the top score in Nepali innings. Padam Bahadur Badela made an unbeaten 25 and Amar Oli 21 not out. Shankar Regmi (16) and Ram Prasad Poudel (13) were the only remaining Nepali batsmen to make runs in double figures.
Earlier, Ravindara smashed 134 runs and when he was dismissed by Amar, Sri Lanka had already amassed 273 runs. Deshappriya then contributed not out 75 for Sri Lanka.
Nepal will play South Africa on Tuesday.
