Students hold fundraiser for Bajura slide victims

KATHMANDU: A fund raising and documentary-viewing programme was conducted at the Kathmandu University School Of Management (KUSOM), Balkumari on June 28.

The programme was an initiative of the KUSOM Social Club in collaboration with the Rotary Club, Dillibazaar, Nepalese Youth for Climate Action (NYCA), Youth For Disaster Risk Reduction (YDRR), Rotaract Club of Dillibazar, Rotaract Club of Kathmandu-Midtown and Nepal Mountain Bike, youth and various youth groups to help the survivors of the Bajura landslide.

All the participating students were formally greeted with an opening speech by the Vice

Coordinator of KUSOM Social Club, Anna Deuja and Co-ordinator of the Club Sony

Munarkarmi.

After that, the participants witnessed the aftermath of landslide of Bajura in a short yet sad video that showcased glimpses like the body of a baby lying on the ground, women crying their hearts out and development at its worse.

The programme ended providing detailed report on the Bajura landslide and the fundraising programme where everyone contributed to the campaign as per their wish.

It was informed that the devastating landslide took place on May 31 at Bandhu VDC-9, Bajura. The landslide washed away 27 houses and shops where five people lost their lives and many others were injured.

The slide also destroyed the Kolti Water Supply System, Kolti Primary Health Centre and four to five kilometres of the Kolti-Pipaldali road, 50-60 Ropanis of agricultural land and local irrigation systems where the victims are all from poor families and most are Dalits.
