KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce and Supplies is preparing to run subsidized groceries in different cities, including Kathmandu to control black marketing price hike in daily commodities during the festive season.
The department will sell essentials including rice, sugar, salt and oil through outlets of Salt Trading, National Trading Company and Nepal Food Corporation. Director General at the Department, Narayan Prasad Bidari said the subsidized groceries will come into operation within two weeks.
The Department also released a three-month action plan to ensure smooth supply of goods and services. The government will collect statistics on demand and supply of daily essentials and ask the private sector to announce the total stock and import of goods.
The action plan also aims to expedite market monitoring to curb syndicating and carteling that has beome rife.
On Monday, the Prime Minister had directed officials to monitor the market and ease the supply of goods and services to the people during the festivals like Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.
