Swiss Ambassador Gass expressed his satisfaction for getting opportunities to promote local residents' livelihood.

CHITWAN: The Swiss Ambassador to Nepal, Thomas Gass, on Wednesday inaugurated the Mudhabhar Irrigation Canal constructed in Bhandara, the western belt of the Chitwan district amid a function.


Ambassador Gass also inspected other works done by Lother-Rapti Dam Protection Committee getting the Swiss Cooperation Agency.


The committee has constructed the spur to control the level of Rapti River and protect the dam, run various irrigation projects by gathering water resources in Rapti and other rivers.


It has also worked for the protection of the settlements that are at risk due to possible flood threats in different rivers in east Chitwan.


Speaking at the function, Swiss Ambassador Gass expressed his satisfaction for getting opportunities to promote local residents' livelihood.


Chairman of the Mudhabhar Water Consumers' Group, Hathan Chaudhary said the canal constructed in the Rapti River with financial support from the Agency has the capacity to irrigate around 300 hectares of land in the east Chitwan. As many as 83,804 people from 14,746 families would benefit from the projects run under the agency here, he said.


With the construction of the projects, fishery, vegetable farming and animal rearing was flourishing in the east Chitwan of late.


Gass also held discussion with the local journalists and representatives of the political parties Tuesday itself.
