POKHARA: Taxi entrepreneurs on Monday staged a sit-in programme demanding the government to immediately start the construction work of the purposed Pokhara International Regional Airport (PIRA) in the Lake city.
The taxi entrepreneurs and hundreds of drivers encircled the airport and blew horns for five minutes, a day after Pokharelis had launched the protest rally.
Vehicular movement around the airport area was halted due to the agitation. Similarly, the FM radio station had also stopped airing the programme for five minutes as part of the protest programme.
According to them, the government had taken 3,106 Ropani lands from them for the construction of PIRA in 1974. The agitators have forwarded the stepwise agitation programme to mount pressure on the government for building the international airport. PIRA Concern Committee has announced to encircle the Singha Durbar in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
