KATHMANDU: A meeting of the major political parties—the UCPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress, CPN-UML along with the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) is underway in Singha Durbar on Thursday to arrive at consensus on the unresolved issues in the yet-to-be promulgated constitution.
Issue of federalism, forms of governance, judiciary, electoral system and citizenship are some of the thorniest issues which have been perturbing the political parties to arrive at the consensual agreement when only 39 days are left to meet the May 27 deadline to promulgate a new statute.
If the political parties fail to settle down the unresolved issues by April 22, CA’s full house meeting has been called on April 23 for voting on the unresolved issues.
Today’s meet is also likely to finalise three draft bills--bill regarding the amendment to the Interim Constitution, bills on Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Inquiry on Disappearances, said UCPN-Maoist Lawmaker Khimlal Devkota.
