KATHMANDU: The All Nepal Transport Workers' Union has warned of resorting to a nationwide strike if the 35-point demand presented before the Ministry of Labour and Transport Management was not fulfilled within the next 15 days.
The 35-point memorandum was handed over the Ministry on December 28, 2008.
President of the Association, Jagat Bahadur Simkhada said at a press conference on Thursday that the transport workers should get permanent status as per their labour, a provision of ration card should be made, 50 per cent concession should be given to them in any means of transport and the provision of license of conductors and the Transport Workers Regulations 2049 should be annulled.

Just another ridiculous gesture that will only contribute towards bringing down this poor, crippled country even further (if that is possible). NOBODY is getting a good deal in Nepal these days, but if the population knuckles down, works properly, shuns corruption and adopts a more broad-minded approach, things should improve. Carry on with your strikes, lax work ethic, dishonesty and self-serving party politics and Nepal will go down the plug-hole. Piers, Nepal
