KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai threw in a surprise at the inaugural session of the sixth national convention of Newa Deya Daboo today.
Addressing the convention in Newari, PM Bhattarai, who had reached the convention venue in Basantapur with his wife Hisila Yami, said since all the ethnic groups in the country are equal, they deserve equal rights.
Bhattarai said his government is committed to providing equal rights to all ethnic groups.
Noting that the nation could not get a new constitution due to political parties’ failure to come to an agreement, Bhattarai said the parties will soon end the political crisis through consensus.
He also found time to heap praise on the Newar community, hailing it for its significant role in the establishment of the Communist Party in Nepal and for the success of People’s War as well as People’s Movement in 2006.
